South Carolina Shrimpers Association Elects New Leadership

McClellanville, SC – October 4, 2023 – The South Carolina Shrimpers Association (SCSA) announced today the election of its new leadership team for the 2023-2025 term. The Association held an emergency meeting to discuss immediate action needed to address the imported shrimp crisis and elect a new board to tackle the issues facing our local shrimpers. 

Rocky Magwood was elected President of the SCSA. Rocky is a 4th generation shrimper who started working on the back of his fathers shrimp boat when he was in sixth grade but has been on a shrimp boat his entire life. Rocky brings a vast knowledge of the shrimping industry and the challenges facing shrimpers through South Carolina. His service is dedicated to all those who work our waters, their families and the communities that rely on our industry. 

Bryan Jones was elected Vice President of the SCSA. Bryan is a first generation shrimper from McClellanville, SC and while newer to the shrimping industry he brings legislative and financial expertise to help the association be effective. Bryan has served as Chief of Staff to the majority leader of the Florida Senate, and recently worked as Vice President- Investments for J.P. Morgan.

Christina Oyler was elected Treasurer of the SCSA. Christina is the daughter of revered McClellanville Shrimper Errol Hattaway, a 56 year veteran of the shrimping industry who was instrumental in the history of the South Carolina Shrimpers Association, Christina has served as the SCSA’s treasurer for the past 10 years.

Eliza Lacey Magwood was elected as Secretary, of the SCSA. Eliza resides in McClellanville and is AVP in Treasury Management for South State Bank. She is the daughter of Will Lacey who shrimped the waters of Charleston County. She has deep familial ties to the shrimping industry and has a strong desire to see our industry thrive. 

The new leadership team will be responsible for representing the interests of South Carolina shrimpers at the state and federal levels, and for promoting the sustainability of the shrimping industry.

The SCSA is a non-profit organization that represents the interests of South Carolina shrimpers. The SCSA works to promote the sustainability of the shrimping industry, to advocate for the rights of shrimpers, and to educate the public about the importance of the shrimping industry to South Carolina’s economy.
